Selena Gomez is an American singer and actress who became well-known after performing in Disney's Wizard of Waverly Places.

Here is a quick account of her life and work prior to fame. That is, before  she and Justin Beiber became the most talked about couple since Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston and before she would stun the globe with her acting and singing abilities.

Even before Selena made it public that she had been diagnosed of Lupus and was undergoing chemotherapy.

Selena Gomez was born to a mother who was 16 years old. When she was just five years old, her parents did divorce, and to attempt to keep up with the finances, her mother worked three jobs at once.

Selena's mother, who is also an actor, took her backstage at a theatrical performance, where she understood that pursuing a career in acting was also her desire.

In Grand Prairie, Texas, Selena Marie Gomez was born on July 22, 1992. Her parents gave her the name in honor of the singer Selena Quintanilla Perez who was fatally assassinated in 1995.

Selena Gomez was exposed to Selena's music as a young child. Her father usually took  her to a statue that serves as a tribute to the late musician. He also took her to the theaters, where Selena Gomez repeatedly watched the film that was made in the musician's honor and starred Jennifer Lopez.

Her mother Amanda Dawn or Mandy Cornett is of Italian ancestry, while her father Ricardo Joel Gomez is of Mexican ancestry. When Selena was just 5 years old, the two split up.

Though the separation, she was raised by both parents. And she also spent a lot of time with her grandparents while her parents were still in school, because they were so young.

As a young child, Selena competed in local beauty pageants as her mother sought acting work. Her mother had to work three jobs because she had not yet secured anything significant to make ends meet.

Selena claims that there was a moment when she and her mother had to search among the couch cushions in order to locate just enough cash to buy dinner and put gas in the car.

Selena had the opportunity to experience the performing arts after her mother subsequently scored a break by landing an acting role in a theater production. Selena Gomez, despite her shyness, started auditioning because she was clear that this was something she wanted to accomplish for herself.

Through this process, she also acquired friends and started frequently running into Demi Lovato. In 14 episodes of "Barney & Friends" between 2002 and 2004, Selena received her big break; her character's name was Gianna. But after only two short years, she was fired because she began to appear too elderly for the position.

After Barney, Selena experienced a period of difficulty finding work. In "Spy Kids- 3d: game over," she was given a small part where she played the "water park girl." She was also given the role of Julie in "Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial by Fire" in 2005, and she appeared in "Brain Zapped" in 2006, for which she was given the opportunity to record a song for the program.

Selena appeared as a guest star in "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" on the Disney Channel. The Disney Channel must have enjoyed Selena's performance because they subsequently hired her to play the evil Mikaela in the "Hannah Montana" series. After that, she was cast in 2007's "The Wizards of Waverly Place" as Alex Russo, and that was it for her.

Demi Lovato and her mother followed Selena and her mother when they relocated permanently to Los Angeles because they reasoned that if Selena can do it, they can too. Selena was a Disney star at the time and was frequently compared to Miley Cyrus. In 2009, she began dating Miley Cyrus's ex-boyfriend Nick Jonas while performing a lot of singing.

Selena Gomez founded the pop rock group "Selena Gomez & the Scene," which released gold-certified records. She was a true star with endorsement deals, red carpet appearances, feature films, and other things.

She first met Justin Bieber in 2009, and the two started dating in 2011. When the two appeared on the red carpet, everyone recognized them. They both became the topic of conversation.

She also made an appearance in the movie "Spring Breakers," which marked her exit from the Disney realm of being a child celebrity and her ascension to adulthood.
